Diamond Jubilee

I've just been reading THIS news item.

So first of all I'm happy that in 2012 there will be another bank holiday. This will either mean that I get an extra day off (as rest to counteract the effects of working so many hours during the olympics) or an extra days overtime (in order to add to the effect of working so many hours during the olympics).

However, another, more pressing item has come to mind regarding the jubilee. Do any coppers know if this is another chance for us to get easily earned medals...?

Before anyone asks, I'm trying to not to even think about Jack Straw. Lets face it, even the medal made me start to seethe about politicians.

For some reason your post reminded me of `toilet graffiti` I once spotted in the lavvy at Portsmouth University library. Above the bog roll holder, some wag had scribbled, "Sociology Degrees, please take one". In the space after it, an even wittier wag had penned, "...or two".

Thanks for the link!

I don't know anything about medals, but surely a "long service" medal awarded to all and sundry has little satisfaction value? Nice to have and something to give to the grand kids, but would it make you feel warm and fuzzy?

If you want to get yourself a proper gallantry medal you have to haul your ass out of that nice warm office and go and catch some real crims! ;-)

I have a medal...

We called it "The 1000 Pizzas, 1000 Litre Vino medal"

I think we got it for eating too much and, er, drinking just about enough...

Mr NATO gave me it. Which was nice.

You know, you could always try these lot: http://www.legion-of-frontiersmen.net/

On the plus side, they tend towards showy uniforms and lots of medals. On the down side you'll look a proper berk is a real soldier happens to turn up...

There is a precedent for a Diamond jubilee medal from Queen Victoria so there should be one, same rules apply - six years in service to the crown at the date of the jubilee.

I know far more officers who should have got a medal than those who actually did. I also know many who should've been busted but who got protected by the old boys club. I'm afraid it left me slightly cynical.
