PC Bill Barker - RIP

RIP PC Bill Barker.

I'm sure that his colleagues at the moment are grief stricken, and equally sure that they are still out at work helping in the flooded areas in Cumbria.

At the same time, I read about Wootten Bassett turning out again, this time for the 100th repatriation.

My admiration for that town, turning out repeatedly to honour returning fallen troops, is boundless.

WPC CLAIRE HOWARTH - RIP

A policeman was today jailed for a minimum of 18 years for bludgeoning his police constable fiancee to death just hours before they were due to fly out to their wedding in St Lucia.

Martin Forshaw, 27, attacked WPC Claire Howarth with a lump hammer at least five times before carrying her downstairs at the home they shared in Bury.
He then dumped the 31-year-old in her BMW car and drove around secluded country lanes before finding a place to stage a road accident in order to cover up his crime.

Prosecutor Ray Wigglesworth QC said
Forshaw placed Miss Howarth, who was still alive, in the driver's seat and using his foot on the accelerator sat beside her he then crashed the vehicle into a hedge.
He then dialled 999 and told the emergency services there had been a collision.
When police and paramedics arrived at the scene, Forshaw, known to friends and family as Alex, told them his fiance had not been wearing a seatbelt.

She was rushed to Royal Bolton Hospital where she was pronounced dead later that day.

RIP PC Barker, a hero, carrying out his duty with tragically fatal results.

RIP WPC Claire Howarth, took on a role to make society a better place, yet faced monstrous violence in her own home.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of both officers.

Amen, Area. Sometimes you just never know when fate is going to turn you into a hero.

Some of my old crew (ret'd) make the trip to Wooton Bassett. Fuel for the soul.

Very sad Re: PC Barker.

That said, if you have to choose a way to go while working surely saving several lives has to be a better way to go than getting stabbed/rta on the way to a job.

Admittedly, not going at all would be even better...

Once again, thanks from us MoP's for continuing to work on the frontlines guys and try and hold this mess of a social fabric etc together guys...

Have to second Mr BinarySurfer there. I don't think those of us who have not seen the world as the 999 people see it can imagine the risks you guys face all day, every day. We only hear about the things that go seriously wrong, most of the time we don't even notice you are there.

We don't often get the chance to say: you are appreciated!

As I posted on gadgets site,

My heartfelt condolences to the family, especially his children.

In the light of much courage and bravery currently on far flung fields, it is easy to overlook that there are a great many men and women much nearer to home who everyday put themselves in harms way to keep us all safe.

I for one am very glad that there are people like PC Bill Barker and many others like him.

Rest Easy.
